Your Guide to Southeastern NC’s People & Places!

Today’s Brunswick Beat is a special one as we learn more about the NC 4th of July Festival. This festival dates back to 1795 when ships would lay anchor in the Southport harbor and discharge salutes from their cannons throughout the day. Ships officers and town officials would toast to our young nation’s independence during what was known as the “Festival of Free Men.” Since its inception, the festival has evolved into an incredible 6-day event with a parade, street fairs, beach day and MORE!
