Next week marks the official start of summer and with it comes a steady stream of activities, festivals and vacationers. Here in Southport, North Carolina summer time is celebrated in a big way. 2015 will be no different and the recent announcement that the “quaint fishing village” won Coastal Living Magazine’s “America’s Happiest Seaside Town” contest is evidence of the town’s historic charm and enticing lifestyle. For years, retirees have found paradise along the Coast of Brunswick County. Whether on the islands or in an “active lifestyle community” these “transplants” have added another dimension to the attractiveness and cultural diversity of the area. Bringing with them well polished talents, spare time and money these retirees create clubs, hold fundraising/concerts/events, open businesses, pay taxes, and in general are involved in the community. As Realtors, we often hear area newcomers say “we are looking for a sense of community”, “we won’t know anyone when we move here”. It is easy to assure them that in no time, they will be juggling a very busy social calendar. Since this is the first summer our office is open in Southport, Carolinas Connect Realty felt it important to get involved with the locals and show our community support. Two of the ways we chose to participate is by sponsoring the first annual Southport Songwriters Festival and the 4th of July Festival.

June 19th-21st, Southport will host its first annual Southport Songwriters Festival. Organized and hosted by Songwriter, Louisa Branscomb, the festival will feature 3 free concerts along as well as 2 sold out, house concerts. Local songwriters featured are Daniel “Rev” Guetschow, Christine Martinez, Vicky Burton, and Bryce Barker who will all be joined by many other talented, visiting songwriters. Carolinas Connect Realty is proud to sponsor the event and encourage the development and sharing of talents in our community. Find out more on FACEBOOK, Southport Songwriters Festival

Southport is also home to the largest 4th of July Festival in North Carolina. The town welcomes tens of thousands of visitors to the annual festival which is organized by the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce. Activities stretch over a week and offer something for children of all ages including the NC Freedom Run/Walk, parade, arts & crafts, live music, classic car show, children’s entertainment, regatta, flag retirement ceremony, fireworks and many more events from June 26th-July 5th.
